    • Current confirmed cases are around 126,000
    • 110 Territories
    • Quarantines include the city of Wuhan, parts of NYC and all of Italy
    • 2-3% death rate - particularly dangerous for people over 60
  • What does the future hold?
    • Epidemics follow a logistics curve
    • Starts out with exponential growth, followed by saturation which leads to a flattening
    • We are looking for the inflection point. That is when it will start to get better
  • How can you stay safe?
    • Reduced exposure, Hygiene, Immune system strength, Health care capacity
    • Reduced Exposure
      • A disease has a percentage chance of infecting someone, based on their distance
      • For COVID-19, the radius is said to be 3ft/1m
      • The infection rate comes down to infection percent * people encountered
      • Encounter fewer people and your risk goes down linearly
      • Reduce your chances of infection and you can significantly improve your odds of staying away from it
        • Social distancing - staying away from people, especially groups
        • Following good hygiene practices

      • Hand washing & Sanitation
        • How it works
          • Germs stick to the oils in your hands
          • Detergents break down that oil
          • Rubbing makes the germs move and come off your hands
          • The suds trap the germs into the soap and they get washed away
      • Hands off your face
      • Keeping things clean
        • Clean regularly used surfaces
        • Use a cleaner that can kill viruses and bacteria
    • Immune System Strength
      • Sleep as much as you can
      • Keep your stress low
      • Drink lots of water
    • Health Care Capacity
      • Flattening the care curve
      • Even if the same number of people get the virus, the hospital capacity matters
      • Keeping people more-at-risk safe is a priority since they will likely need more medical care

    • Food
      • For food, you may not be able to get your normal foods.
      • Canned goods and dried goods are key
      • You may also want to freeze
    • Cleaning
      • Soap
      • Rubbing alcohol
      • Bleach-based cleaners
    • Water treatment
      • Boil
      • Filter
    • Drive-thru and deliveries
      • These keep you farther away and reduce your exposure
